Swimwear deals online come in a variety of sizes and styles. In addition, shopping for bathing suits online allows you to try that bikini on in the comfort of your own house—and avoid the dreaded wrap-around mirrors of the department store changing room.
Take advantage of bathing suit retailers who allow you to purchase swimsuit tops and bottoms separately to create your own look. These mix and match separates, such as those offered at Newport News, let you create four different looks for the cost of two swimsuit top-and-bottom sets. Buy a floral halter top with a matching skirted bikini bottom and a solid bandeau tankini top in a coordinating color with a solid boy-leg bikini bottom. The result: four bathing suits for $61.
Large department and big box stores with websites offer great deals on inexpensive children’s bathing suits. Speedo, the make of high-quality swimsuits for competitive swimmers and sunbathers alike, has a sale section on its Speedousa.com website that offers significant discounts on suits for men, women and children. The sizes are limited for sale items (particularly for girls’ suits), but the variety is extensive. The Men’s Mirage water shorts pictured below normally retail for $44. At the Speedo sale website, they sell for $26 (shipping is $6.95). Swimoutlet.com also offers discount Speedo swimsuits.
In addition to clothing stores that specialize in plus-sized clothing, such as Lane Bryant and Catherine's, other stores and websites offer impressive selections of inexpensive plus-size bathing suits. Swimsuitsforall.com, for example, features suits such as the Sandy Beach Two Piece Plus Size Skirtini Swimsuit by Body I.D. pictured below for $42, which is 50 percent off the original price (shipping varies with UPS). Old Navy’s exclusively online plus-size shop features hip plus-size tankinis and one-piece suits ranging in price from $39.50 to $59.50 ($5 shipping). All of these are pre-swim season 2008 prices. Of course, at the tail end of the season in late summer and during the fall, these prices will likely drop considerably.
