Anyone can purchase mass-produced, cheap Halloween decorations at their local gigantic retail store. Be different and display unique items in your house this season.

Online auction and retail sites give shoppers looking for interesting Halloween decor a wealth of options. Collectors who want to sell some of their vintage Halloween decorations can choose auction sites such as eBay, or other websites that cater to individual sellers, like Ruby Lane and Esty.com.

Following are some great sites for distinctive Halloween decoration for all budgets from online retailers.

Grandin Road Halloween Items

At the high end of purveyors of unique Halloween decorations is Grandinroad.com. In addition to ghoulishly gorgeous Halloween jewelry, apparel, and costumes, the site sells indoor and outdoor Halloween decorations that you won’t find at big-box retailers. From giant, inflatable black cats ($69 each) to spider web serving dishes (starting at $49), Grandin Road’s Halloween decorations are clever, well-crafted and priced accordingly. Their Halloween window panel stickers are a creepy hoot. Check out the Menacing Mummy Window Panel pictured below ($24). Shipping starts at $5.

Halloween at Old World Primitives

The Oldworldprimitives.com site sells primitive folk art, primitive crafts, primitive reproductions, and other items. The Halloween selection on the site is reminiscent of early and mid-twentieth century décor. The Vintage Cat Bucket (see photo below) is one such item. The bucket is made of papier mache and measures 6 inches tall with the wire handle and 5.5 inches wide. Price: $11.99. Shipping is $5.95.

eBay and Halloween

What can’t you find on the giant auction site? A quick search for “Halloween” in the Antiques section of eBay in mid September turned up auctions for a cast iron witch boot scraper (bids start at $100), a primitive vintage Halloween doll with her own cat mask (starting bid $69) and folk art Halloween shakers (bids start at $8.50). As always, read seller feedback and shipping costs before bidding on eBay items.

Vintage Halloween at Ruby Lane

At Rubylane.com, sellers of antiques and art, jewelry, and vintage collectibles display their wares, usually at a fixed price. Since each seller is screened by the site before they are allowed to post their items for sale, shoppers know they’re getting true vintage or antique items. Vintage paper diecuts, candles, postcards, masks, and really creepy papier mache candy holders are available on this site, with prices that can get to scary heights for the truly rare items.

Halloween Treats at Fancyflours.com

If you want your Halloween décor to look good enough to eat, Fancyflours.com is the online store for you. The site’s Halloween collection includes adorable witch, moon, and ghost stencils for giant (3.5-inch) sugar cookies. Fancyflours sells an impressive variety of molded sugar Halloween shapes too. Price: $13.50, Shipping is $8 on all orders.

Unique Halloween Items at Etsy.com

No site offers more unique and one-of-a-kind Halloween decorations than Etsy.com, the site for all things handmade. Unique, artsy Halloween décor like these Victorian Ghosts from Middleburg’s Etsy shop ($37 each) will set you apart from neighbors. Search for “Halloween” on Etsy.com and wade through hundreds of original designs.

Wherever you choose to shop for unique Halloween décor, remember to buy items that will be easy to store. Even if you decorate for Halloween as soon as the first leaves fall, you will only use these items for a few weeks of every year.
